Three Cheers For Savannah

Thursday, March 31, 2011

Last night was Savannah's first high school cheer banquet.  She was voted on by her fellow team mates as the most dedicated cheerleader.  Proud mom moment.

Selective Service

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Ok, was not ready for the mail today.  Robert will not be 18 until next week and we have already recieved his Selective Service System Registration - way to put a damper on a birthday week.  That's all.

18 and College? Really?

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

I think I blinked and 18 years have flown by.  Robert, my oldest, will be 18 in 2 weeks.  Leaving for college in 4.5 months.  280 miles away from home.
Last week during his last spring break of high school, we traveled to Tallahassee, Florida.  Spent time touring the campus.  Spent time looking around.  Spent time signing papers for his college apartment.  I know he will survive it but not so sure my heart will.  This is a bittersweet time in our lives.  I cannot imagine the four of us not living in the same house.  I'm sure these next 4.5 months will be a blur.  18th birthday, graduation, grad parties, grad cruise.  Perhaps during this time I should probably teach him how to use the dishwasher and washing machine.  Just a thought.

Spring Time, Fresh Market and Happy BD Grandpa.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

It looks like spring has arrived.  We have to take advantage of it because in Florida Spring seems to last a week or two and bam we are at 90 degree temps again -  and summer is here.  Not that I'm complaining, I'm ready for my flip flops again.  Here are a few pics of the flowers in my yard that are in bloom.
Well this one is not outside but I love my tulips.  St. Patty's Day is coming soon.

Love when my flowers are blooming.
Always a treat to take a trip to the Fresh Market.  Love that place.

This is a beautiful rose bush I bought today - love it.
Started our day out with a birthday breakfast for Grandpa Jefferson.  This is a pic of Savannah with my parents.  So blessed to have them.

Listen for His Purpose

Friday, March 4, 2011

It is God who wakes us each morning.  If He didn't keep us alive overnight, it wouldn't matter what kind of an alarm clock we had!  The prophet said, "God wakens me morning by morning, and he wakens me for a purpose so that I can hear; I am like a disciple who is taught".

Before you even get out of bed, listen to hear what God has to say to you.  It will be a good day if you start it with a ready ear, taking time to listen to Him.  God is eager to reveal today's plan to you.

Who is the man who reverently fears and worships the Lord?  Him shall He teach in the way that he should choose.  he himself shall dwell at ease.....The secret of the Lord have they who fear Him.  Psalm 25:12-14

Paula Deen - Orange Rosemary Chicken - Mmmmmm Good.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

This is a Paula Deen recipe that I guarantee if you like chicken, you will love it!

Ingredients

1 (3-4 pound) roasting chicken
2/3 cup chicken broth
2 oranges, quartered, divided
1 medium onion, quartered
4 tablespoons butter, softened
2 oranges, zested
2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
1 teaspoon Kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup orange marmalade
2 rosemary sprigs, more for garnish
1 head of garlic
3 orange slices

Directions

In the bottom of slow cooker, add chicken broth, 4 orange quarters and onion. In a small mixing bowl, stir together butter, orange zest, chopped rosemary, salt, pepper and marmalade.
Pat chicken dry and liberally salt and pepper the cavity. Place remaining orange quarters, rosemary sprigs, and garlic inside the cavity. Using your fingers, loosen the skin from the meat. Place half of butter mixture underneath the skin. Rub remaining butter on the outside of the chicken. Place chicken on top of orange quarters and lay three orange slices on top of the bird. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, or until juices run clear.

Mmmm, Southern Cooking is like a long walk in the meadow, you just can never seem to fill up enough on it. - Paula Deen
